How does the Student Loan Repayment Program (SLRP) work?
· The SLRP provides repayment of authorized loans up to a maximum of $50,000 inclusive of interest.
· The portion or amount of a loan(s) that maybe repaid annually on the anniversary of the contract start date is:
· FY21 Contracts and older: 15% or $500, whichever is greater per loan, for each year of satisfactory service, plus current year interest not to exceed $7,500.
· FY22 Contracts: 15% or $1,000, whichever is greater per loan, plus current year interest, not to exceed a total of $7,500 each year.
· FY23 contracts forward: 15% or $1,000, whichever is greater per loan, plus current year interest not to ex-ceed $8,333.33 each year.
· Payments are made directly to the lender(s) and the Soldier cannot be reimbursed for payments they have made.
· The Soldier and unit must sign a DD Form 2475 each year no earlier than 90 days before the payment date. The Soldier must also provide copies of their National Student Loan Data Sheets (NSLDS) (Summary, Detail, and History pages are required) no earlier than 30 days before the payment date. These are obtained from https://studentaid.gov/
Loans that have fallen into a default status cannot be paid on. The Soldier will need to bring the loan back to good standing before payments can resume.
