Texas National Guard
“Innovation is inherently in our DNA as Citizen-Soldiers and Airmen. We need to think big and contribute in ways not previously seen and move at the speed of relevance. Our unique business model is postured well to lead in innovation”
— Major General Tracy Norris, Texas Adjutant General
The Texas Military Department Joint Innovation Unit, known as TMDx, is America’s pathfinder in leveraging the National Guard to tap into the innovation within our communities. As America’s premier reserve force, the National Guard allows citizens to serve in the military part-time while still pursuing their civilian careers. They work across many disciplines to include small business, academia, medical, disaster response, technology and science. It is made up of your neighbors, co-workers, and family members that live within Texas and desire to have an impact in their community, state, and nation!
The Texas Military Department (TMD) is the largest Nation Guard in the country and home to the world’s 10th largest economy. It is home to over 50 facilities throughout the state and is composed of 24,000 Texans in the Texas Army and Air National Guard, Texas State Guard and civilians throughout the organization. We are strategically placed in cities throughout Texas to provide unparalleled access to our people, facilities, and equipment to support the Department of Defense (DoD) innovation ecosystem.
TMDx has locations in Austin, Houston, San Antonio, and Fort Worth to provide tools, resources, and pathways for these citizen-soldiers and airmen to utilize their skillsets, aptitude, and passion to bring their ideas to fruition. Our mission is to inspire, engage, and support our people, academia and industry to solve national security challenges so we ready to answer our nation's call both here at home and abroad.
