Texas State Guard to Hold Training Exercise in Bastrop Saturday
AUSTIN, Texas (March 16, 2018) -- In preparation for the upcoming hurricane season, the 2nd Regiment, Texas State Guard, is conducting a joint training exercise with the Bastrop County Office of Emergency Management, local officials and law enforcement agencies in Bastrop, March 17, 2018.
During this time, citizens may notice an increase of military personnel within their communities and at businesses. This exercise increases the readiness and capabilities of the Texas State Guard that may be used by the Governor or fellow agency partners in support of the citizens of Texas during an emergency or disaster, such as hurricanes, flooding, and wildfires.
The scenario-driven training exercise will include shelter management operations and points of distribution operations at several locations throughout Bastrop.
“We are grateful to the residents and local officials of Bastrop who have been so welcoming and have allowed the Texas State Guard to train here,” said Col. James Muirhead, commander of the 2nd Regiment, Texas State Guard. “This training prepares the Texas State Guard to respond to the needs of the citizens of Texas when called upon by the Governor. We are Texans Serving Texas.”
