FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLIC RELEASE:

Texas State Guard to Hold Honorary Enlistment Ceremony

AUSTIN, Texas (Mar. 8, 2017) – The Texas State Guard’s 8th Regiment will conduct an honorary enlistment ceremony for an 11-year-old boy at The Department Club, in Port Arthur, Texas, March 11, 2017 at 5 p.m.
Ayden Burrow, 11, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of three months. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs, but also the pancreas, liver, kidneys and intestine with no known cure.

After telling a family friend, Cpl. Shane Haygood, who also serves in the Texas State Guard, that he “had a dream of being a soldier,” Haygood relayed this wish to his leadership in the guard, who set about making Burrow’s wish a reality.

In what will be a surprise ceremony for the young boy, it is the family who is humbled and honored by the opportunity presented to their son.

“It’s something he has always dreamed of and for the Texas State Guard to do this for him, I can never thank you enough,” said Ayden’s mother, Aleasha Simmons.
