Media is invited to cover the training exercise on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, April 6, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.   All media coverage will require coordination with the TXSG Public Affairs Officer assigned to Fort Wolters for parking instructions and media escort.

Fort Wolters is located is located at 7701 Wagner Road, Mineral Wells, Texas 76067.  Media will be required to show credentials at the gate.

Texas State Guard to conduct annual training at Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells

AUSTIN, Texas (April 3, 2019) – The Texas State Guard, in support of local and state agencies, will conduct mission essential task list training to strengthen its disaster preparedness at Fort Wolters, in Mineral Wells, Texas, from April 4-7, 2019.  The Texas State Guard Air Component, 19th Regiment, and Engineer Group will be training at this site.
The designated training is designed to strengthen emergency response capabilities by training for an emergency with operations in multiple displaced locations.  The training will include points of distribution, shelter management, evacuation tracking procedures, land navigation in relation to ground search and rescue, communications, and engineer installation analysis.  
In recent years the Texas State Guard has been called to state active duty for hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding and wildfires.  The TXSG is the lead military component for Operation Lone Star in the Rio Grande Valley—the state’s annual humanitarian medical mission—and provides support to the state’s annual Oral Rabies Vaccination Program and the East Texas Medical Outreach missions in East Texas.
The Texas State Guard is the state’s military agency, trained, organized and ready to respond when a disaster strikes and Texans need help.
