Texas National Guard Airborne unit to conduct training operations Saturday

AUSTIN, Texas (March 24, 2015) – On Saturday, March 28, 2015, soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 143rd Regiment (Airborne) will be conducting airborne training operations in the vicinity of the North Texas Regional Airport in Grayson County, Texas.  

The 36th Infantry Division soldiers of the Texas Army National Guard will be practicing airfield seizure operations, which is a standard training requirement. During this time, soldiers will be armed with standard issued weapons, but no live, training or blank ammunition will be fired during the training event.  

While this event is closed to the public, citizens in the immediate Grayson County area should not be alarmed of the increased military activities. The training event will include several aspects: low flying U.S. Air Force aircraft, soldiers parachuting onto the airport, and tactical military vehicles in the area. Additionally, all aircraft and training operations will be done in accordance with FAA standards.

The airport will be closed to most activities from approximately 9:30 a.m. to noon, however, the time frame may be adjusted based on weather conditions.  Pilots should check applicable Notices to Airmen (NOTAM) prior to planning flights to/from or in the vicinity of the airport.

Media outlets that cover the Grayson County area are requested to put this information out as a public service to the community.
