Media is invited to cover the culminating event and the competition’s media day on Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. All media coverage will require coordination with the state public affairs office for parking and a media escort.

Texas National Guard partners with international armed forces for annual Best Warrior Competition

AUSTIN, Texas (Feb. 26, 2019) – On Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 6:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., the Texas Military Department will host a media day at Camp Swift in Bastrop, Texas, near Austin, as Texas National Guard Soldiers and Airmen, in addition to Czech and Chilean armed forces members compete in the final round of the statewide Best Warrior Competition.

The Best Warrior Competition is a rigorous three-day competition that draws Soldiers and Airmen from around Texas and tests their tactical and technical expertise through scored events, such as a tactical road march, an obstacle course a physical fitness test, an oral knowledge exam board, as well as “a mystery event” announced the day of the competition.

For the second year representatives from Texas’ State Partnership Program countries, the Czech Republic and Chile, will be competing in this event. The purpose is to build camaraderie and strengthen inter-agency relationships between Texas Guardsmen and those they serve alongside of both at home and abroad.

The winners of this year’s Best Warrior Competition will be named and honored at a banquet in April. Winners from the Army National Guard will continue to represent Texas in regional and/or national Best Warrior competitions later this year.
