Media is invited to cover the deployment ceremony at Bastrop I.S.D. Memorial Stadium in Bastrop, Texas on Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. and must arrive no later than 10:30 a.m. Leadership and Soldiers from the regiment will be available for interviews.

Texas National Guard Cavalry Regiment Deploys to Sinai Peninsula

AUSTIN, Texas (Dec. 18, 2014) - On Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., the Texas Army National Guard will bid goodbye and good luck to more than 450 members of the 1st Squadron, 112th Cavalry Regiment as they mobilize to the Sinai Peninsula. The deployment ceremony will be held at Bastrop Memorial Stadium in Bastrop, Texas, near Austin. 

The Bryan based regiment is aligned under the 72nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 36th Infantry Division headquartered in Austin, Texas. While deployed, the unit, named Task Force Stallion, will serve as Multinational Force Observers (MFO) whose mission will be to enforce the Israel-Egypt Peace Treaty signed in 1979. The Multinational Force and Observers is an independent international organization, created from the Camp David Accords.

"It is a critical mission to assist and maintain the 32-year long peace agreement between Egypt and Israel," Said Maj. Gabriel Simonds, Commander, 1st Squadron, 112th Cavalry Regiment. "Our Citizen-Soldiers from across Texas stand ready to accept and accomplish this vital mission to contribute to the stability of the region."

The members of the Texas National Guard will undergo additional training at Fort Hood before deploying overseas early next year. 

Please note the inclement weather location will be the Jerry Fay Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts at 1401 Cedar St. in Bastrop.
