Media is invited to cover the deployment ceremony at the Grand Prairie High School gymnasium in Grand Prairie, Texas on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 10 a.m. and must arrive no later than 9:30 a.m. (this is a firm time) to allow for parking and coordination. Leadership and Soldiers from the unit will be available for interviews following the ceremony.

The Grand Prairie High School gymnasium is located at 101 High School Dr., Grand Prairie, Texas 75050.  Media will be required to show credentials.

Texas National Guard Aviation Battalion Deploys to Middle East

AUSTIN, Texas (Feb. 1, 2017) 

On Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at 4 p.m., the Texas Army National Guard will bid goodbye and good luck to the 2-149th General Support Aviation Battalion, 36th Combat Aviation Brigade, 36th Infantry Division as they mobilize, to the Middle East, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Spartan Shield.

The Operation Enduring Freedom Spartan Shield force allows forces to contribute to U.S. Army Central Command mission imperatives to counter, protect, defend and prepare while building partnerships.  

The mission of the 2-149th General Aviation Support Battalion will be to provide general aviation support to the U.S. ground forces commander under Army Central Command.  This will include aircraft, personnel, pilots, mechanics and air traffic support.

Following some additional training, the battalion will deploy for overseas sometime this spring.
