Texas Military Department welcomes public for annual open house

AUSTIN, Texas (April 9, 2019) - The Texas Military Department and Camp Mabry, in Austin, Texas, will host its annual open house from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., this Saturday and Sunday, April 13-14, 2019. The event will feature the American Heroes Show.

The free two-day event will feature a variety of military vehicles and equipment on display, a helicopter show, the Traveling Vietnam Wall, a World War II reenactment, local first responder demonstrations, and many other events. This year, the department will award the Lone Star Medal of Valor to more than a dozen service members for their exceptional contributions during Hurricane Harvey.

The event will also highlight the crucial role of helicopters in law enforcement, public safety, urban search and rescue and National Guard support to civil authorities in domestic operations through aerial demonstrations, weather dependent.

"I look forward to this event ever year. Opening our gates and welcoming the public into Camp Mabry gives us a chance to educate our friends and neighbors on the many missions of the Texas Military Department," said Texas Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Tracy R. Norris. "This is a great opportunity for our fellow Texans to see how coordination with local communities and partner first responders is crucial in our efforts to serve our citizens both at home and abroad."
