Basic Requirements

Be a Texas resident for at least 180 days;
Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident under the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. Section 1101 et seq.);
Be at least 17 years old and not older than 70, subject to Subsections (c) and (d);
Pass a criminal history check;
Not be a registered sex offender; and
Be approved by the governor or the adjutant general under the governor’s authority.
