Texas Guard on standby in Bryan 
 
AUSTIN, Texas (May 16, 2015) – The Texas Army National Guard recently sent approximately 60 citizen-soldiers to the Bryan armory in support of severe weather and flooding operations.

The soldiers assigned to this armory are assigned to the 1st Squadron, 112 Cavalry Regiment, and are currently deployed to Egypt in support of a peacekeeping mission in the Sinai. Texas National Guard leadership shifted assets to Bryan, to backfill the deployed unit, until the severe weather and flooding threat subsides.

“This is Texans helping Texans – neighbors helping neighbors,” Hamilton said. “While we don’t want to have to put our training to the test during a tragedy, our citizen-soldiers remain prepared to help save lives and property, when called.”

At the request of Gov. Greg Abbott, more than 200 citizen-soldiers and airmen from the Texas Guard were mobilized in support of the severe weather and flooding across portions of Texas. Initial response crews mobilized to north Texas as early as May 8, 2015.

Currently, the Texas Army National Guard has air and ground search and rescue teams, as well as, a transportation unit capable of providing swift-water rescue, on standby to support local first responders in the Bryan/College Station area.

The Texas Military continues to work with the Texas Department of Emergency Management to project additional personnel and equipment requirements as needed.
