MEDIA ADVISORY: Change of Command Ceremony for Adjutant General of Texas this Saturday

FOR IMMEDIATE PUBLIC RELEASE:

AUSTIN, Texas (January 8, 2019) – On Saturday, January 12, 2019, Maj. Gen. Tracy R. Norris will take command of the Texas Military Department from Maj. Gen. John F. Nichols. The change of command ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on the Camp Mabry parade field. Maj. Gen. Norris will be available for a limited number of interviews immediately thereafter, during which she will take questions from members of the media in attendance.

In December 2018, Gov. Greg Abbott appointed Maj. Gen. Norris as the new Adjutant General of Texas, effective January 1, 2019, after Maj. Gen. John F. Nichols announced his retirement in late November. Maj. Gen. Norris is the first female Adjutant General in Texas history. The change of command ceremony is a military tradition that represents a formal transfer of authority and responsibility from one commanding officer to another.
