The 636th Military Intelligence Battalion's primary mission of military intelligence is to provide timely, relevant, accurate, and synchronized intelligence and electronic warfare support to tactical, operational and strategic-level commanders. The Unit's intelligence components produce intelligence both for Army use and for sharing across the national intelligence community.
The distinctive unit insignia of the 363th was approved on 10 October 1996, and consists of a shield blazoned: Per bend Argent (Silver Gray) and Azure (Oriental Blue), a griffin's head erased Sable and a mullet Argent. Attached below the shield a Black scroll doubled and inscribed "LONE STAR VIGILANCE" in Silver. Oriental blue and silver gray are the colors traditionally used by Military Intelligence. The griffin embodies vigilance, alertness and courage, reflecting the unit's motto and mission. Black and white symbolize overt and covert operations and the night and day, twenty-four hour mission of Military Intelligence.
