Seeking Volunteers to join the 3/278 Squadron

The Texas Army National Guard is scheduled to receive an armored squadron consisting of M1A1 Abrams tanks, recovery vehicles, and personnel positions from Pennsylvania National Guard’s 3rd Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment. This transfer will grow the capabilities of the Texas Military Department and return armor capabilities back to Texas for the first time since 2004.

The 278th Armor Cavalry Regiment, headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, will re-station the 3rd Sqd from Pennsylvania to the Texas National Guard Mobilization and Training Equipment Site on Fort Hood. The transfer of equipment and addition of over 500 personnel positions will be conducted in phases and enhance relationships with Fort Hood and the U.S. Army’s III Corps, known as “The Army’s Heavy Corps”.
